Adopt-A-Highway Program

The program is an opportunity for local citizens to take the responsibility for picking up litter along a particular stretch of highway. Roadside litter is a chronic problem affecting road systems in all jurisdictions; city, county and state. The problem is constant, costly to control, and time consuming for road maintenance agencies. The Adopt-a-Highway program provides an opportunity for concerned citizens and organizations to donate their time and effort in support of anti-litter campaigns by "adopting" a section of County roadway.

Program Purpose

The program serves to:

  • Build a positive image for themselves, their organization, and Douglas County
  • Educate the traveling public about litter control
  • Enhance the environment
  • Promote community support for anti-litter and road beautification programs
  • Reduce litter along County roads
